First Baptist Church of Denver is a faith community. Out of our collective life, we worship, we do mission and service projects, and we attempt to inspire and educate. First Baptist Church of Denver is an urban church. From our commercial kitchen we have fed thousands of hungry families, homelesss individuals, and seniors, weekly. From the late-1980's until recently, First Baptist Church as sponsored "The Shelter-on-the-Hill," a men's homeless shelter, located in our fellowship hall. Up to 120 men were fed and housed every night, 365 days a year. In order to accomplish this, First Baptist Church partnered with many organizations, churches, and the City of Denver to minister to the hurting and needy population of the Denver Metropolitan area. Since the Spring of 2003, the Church had to suspend its feeding and housing programs due to the need for major repairs to the building. We look forward to completion of those repairs and the promise of new ministry in the future. The Church also maintains an active ministry with many of the government-related groups during Legislative Session each year by providing meeting rooms. Pastor Bowser is also a chaplain for the House of Representatives. Our Foss Park Retreat Center, located in the foothills just west of Denver in Indian Hills, provides opportunity for members and outside groups to "get away" for meetings or personal reflection. For more information regarding Foss Park, see our website by clicking the 'Foss Park' button. First Baptist Church has been blessed with a 126 rank AEolian-Skinner pipe organ, the largest pipe organ west of the Mississippi River and east of Salt Lake City, Utah. This exceptional organ brings a greater dimension to the worship experience. For more information on our pipe organ, return to the home page and select "Our Organ" on the menu. First Baptist Church of Denver is currently undergoing a long-term major "face-lift", if you will. - We have been the recipients of two Colorado Historical Fund grants and have applied for another to renovate our building which will put us in a position to better minister to the changing Capitol Hill neighborhood.
- We are excited about what God is doing within our congregation and are glad to share in ministry with Church of the Master, a sister American Baptist congregation. With God's help, we hope to be a place of hope to those with whom we come in contact. We invite you to visit us and eventually join with us as we "live the life" in an exciting downtown setting.
